Beautiful spot on banks of River Dee for visiting. Nice restaurant, shop , old railway too. I hear they have markets first Sunday of every month. Fishing is famous here if you want to learn. Plenty jumping up to see.

This review focuses heavily on a group with diverse dietary requirements (some vegan, some gluten free, some no dietary requirements). Despite a promising start (separate, dedicated vegan and gluten free menus), we were extremely disappointed when the meals cane out, both in the quality of the vegan offerings (which were of a vastly lower quality than the meals of those without dietary requirements), the disorganisation (which resulted in people unintentionally eating food outside of their dietary requirements despite multiple attempts by us to double check) and the sass (which we got when we asked to have an item removed from the bill as it had been eaten by someone who was intolerant and was therefore not what we had ordered). We did like the general atmosphere and the meals from the standard menu were enjoyed by all. To add depth to this review, let me unpack each point: - Quality of vegan option. The two vegan options ordered were a burger and a roasted beetroot and crispy chickpe baguette. The burger was the most basic you could buy, in the most basic bap you could buy. As my partner put it: "That's such poor quality that I'd be embarrassed to serve that as a midweek dinner to the kids." The baguette was a very basic, soft white hotdog bun with scrawny portions of the advertised ingredients inside. The meals from the standard menu were of a high quality, like you night find in a high-end bistro pub. The vegan sticky toffee was half the size of the standard on, dense, grainy and bland. I regularly make gluten free, vegan sticky toffee pudding for this group and I've always found it a very forgiving thing to adapt for these dietary requirements. Organisation: we ordered both gluten free and vegan sticky toffee puddings. These were served to the wrong people. We queried this as we suspected, based on the numbers of each type that had arrived, that they had been mis-served. Two trips to the kitchen later, we were told that they were the wrong way round so they needed to make another vegan one. When they bought out the new "vegan" one, it looked the same shape as the 'gluten free' one. More trips to the kitchen whislt our gluten free member has a stressful period thinking they had eaten gluten. Turns out all were gluten free but some were not vegan. Oops, the very dairy sensitive vegan had been given the gluten-free dairy one and told it was vegan and already eaten it, but it was full of dairy. The other vegan was re-served a vegan one, which was now cold and in a puddle of melted vegan ice-cream. Meanwhile, I hadn't noticed that we had been given 3 scoops (£6) of ice cream to our toddler, instead of the 1 scoop we'd asked for (£2). Queue negotiating with a toddler to sacrifice some ice-cream to avoid the inevitable car sickness on the return journey. As well as this, we'd had problems with side dishes during the main corse not arriving and then, after prompting, being bought out, but much later. Attitude: when we asked to have the dairy pudding that had been fed to the vegan removed, we received a "but you ate it, didn't you?", to which was responded, incredulously, with "yes, but only because we were told it was vegan, and now it will make us sick". No apology followed, just a disgruntled mumble of "well I suppose I'll take it off then". This would ve a lovely place to visit for those without dietary requirements, but I got the impression that there aren't good systems in place to ensure that dishes make it to the correct people. Perhaps underlying this all is a negative attitude towards dietary requirements. This is speculation, but would explain the poor quality, poor systems, and negative attitude that we experienced.

Very nice setting with some outdoor seating for nice days. Usually very busy at weekends so book ahead! Good food and coffee at prices comparable to similar eateries on Deeside.

A family funeral event was held here. The place was okay. However, the staff was busy with the bereavement and customers. The sandwiches and other foods were plentiful but mediocre.

Milton of Crathes hosts some brilliant car shows and other family friendly events. Plenty of parking. On other days and weekends the Milton trains may be running....yes full size steam engines. Not too far a drive from Aberdeen...

Food was fantastic. Only complaint would be that chips are not standard with the burger. This is not clearly displayed on the menu. Chip are not an option they are mandatory. Lol.
